Fall Fitness Forecast

The leaves are turning and the weather is changing. Soon the holidays will be upon us with the stress and the time constraints and all the wonderful, usually fattening food items. Now is the time to think about your strategy for your fall/winter exercise and nutrition plan.

First, let’s look at your workout routine. Is it routine? Because if is it will be the first thing to fall by the waist side if a holiday party comes along and entices you right out of your gym shorts! Try something new, take a new class at the gym or buy a new exercise DVD and shake things up a bit.

If that is too drastic for you just try to change your intensity in the activity that you are currently doing. Think that you don’t need to change things up? There are two things to keep in mind: 1. As the weather gets colder we have a natural inclination to stay inside and build up our fat layer! 2. Your body adapts very quickly to your exercise routine and a challenging change is exactly what it needs.

As the holiday season approaches, we love to indulge with our families and that usually includes a lot of extra calories that we normally would not consume. Why give up your favorite holiday treats? You don’t have to if you take a few steps to keep your portions in control. Just a few tips to keep in mind.

Try to keep your hunger in check by eating every three hours. When you do eat your holiday meals don’t pile the food on your plate. Enjoy what you are eating because meal time may be the only time you get to slow down during the whirlwind of the holidays!
